Build Drag-and-Drop Categorization Activities That Go Beyond A vs B

Build Drag-and-Drop Categorization Activities That Go Beyond A vs B
Rise's sorting block limits you to two categories. Storyline's freeform drag-and-drop gives you flexibility but costs you hours of development per interaction — custom drop targets, feedback states, scoring logic, and mobile responsiveness testing.
The Lane Sort generator gives you up to five customizable lanes in a visual editor.
Configure your categories and sortable items, then export a single HTML file and embed in Articulate Rise, Storyline, Captivate, Canvas, Moodle, or any LMS that accepts HTML.
Use it for compliance triage (Required vs. Recommended vs. Prohibited), product categorization, decision matrices, and any training where prioritization across multiple categories matters.
How To Use the Generators
Each tool in the eLearningDesign.org ecosystem follows a streamlined, three-step workflow designed to keep you focused on instructional strategy while we handle the technical execution.
Input Your Content: Open the Content tab to add your specific learning prompts, interactive options, and coaching feedback. This is where you build the logic and instructional heart of your activity.
Customize Your Design: Switch to the Design tab to align the tool with your course aesthetic. You can manually adjust colors, typography, and layout structures to ensure a seamless visual fit.
Generate and Embed: Go to the Generate tab to finalize your tool. Click "Copy Embed Code" for your authoring tool's HTML block, or "Download as HTML" for local hosting and offline use.
Common Use Cases
Compliance and Regulatory Triage: Have learners sort actions into "Required," "Recommended," or "Prohibited" lanes to ensure total adherence to company policy.
Product Tiering: Challenge sales teams to correctly categorize features or services into their corresponding subscription levels or product families.
Priority Mapping: Use the lanes to help project managers or teams sort tasks based on urgency and impact, such as a "Low, Medium, High" priority matrix.
