About eLearningDesign.org

I’ve spent more than 20 years designing learning experiences across education and instructional design. One thing has become clear to me: when people feel like they’re playing, they’re learning. That idea is grounded in the science of motivation, and it has shaped the way I approach learning design from the beginning.

I began by teaching psychology. When that program was unexpectedly cut, I was asked to step in as the computer teacher, despite having no background in the subject and no textbooks to work from. I had to learn quickly and teach through backward design, building from outcomes rather than resources. That experience shaped the way I think about learning to this day.

What holds attention is not more information. It’s variety, surprise, and the feeling of doing something rather than simply reading. Multimodal learning experiences create a different kind of engagement than a standard click-through course.

Over the years, I kept running into the same challenge in instructional design. The interaction exists in your mind long before it exists in the tool. You can see the scenario, the reveal, the drag-and-drop. But too often, bringing it to life requires a developer, a workaround, or both.

When AI tools arrived, I saw their value right away. Not as a shortcut to generic content, but as a way to expand creative possibility. I see AI as a set of paintbrushes that can give designers more visual control while keeping human creativity at the center.

That perspective led to eLearningDesign.org, a growing library of interactive HTML generators designed to help instructional designers create more engaging interactions without writing code or being boxed in by a single platform. The generators produce clean, flexible HTML that can work across systems, from Articulate Rise to major LMS platforms.

I hold an MBA and a Master’s in Learning Experience Design and Adult Education Technology. My mission here is simple. I’m building the infrastructure for play. You, the designer, are the one who uses that infrastructure to tell your story. I’m giving you the playground. You’re bringing the imagination.
