Higher or Lower

Ask learners to judge whether the next value rises or falls.

Best for: estimation, data sense, benchmarks.

Build Fast Data Estimation Checks Without Code

Put a statistic on a slide and learners read it. Read is not the same as understood. They can recite the number in the moment and have no sense of whether it is high, low, or normal a week later.

Higher or Lower makes them commit to a guess first. You enter the values, write the reveal, and export a single HTML file you embed in Articulate Rise, Storyline, Captivate, Canvas, Moodle, or any LMS that accepts HTML.

Use it for benchmarks, cost figures, risk rates, and any content where learners need a working feel for the numbers rather than a memorized list of them.

WHY IT WORKS

Higher or Lower asks learners to predict whether the next value rises or falls, then shows the answer.

Trying to answer before seeing the answer improved later learning, even when the attempt failed. Kornell, Hays and Bjork (2009).

How To Use the Generators

Each tool in the eLearningDesign.org ecosystem follows a streamlined, three-step workflow designed to keep you focused on instructional strategy while we handle the technical execution.

  1. Input Your Content: Open the Content tab to add your specific learning prompts, interactive options, and coaching feedback. This is where you build the logic and instructional heart of your activity.

  2. Customize Your Design: Switch to the Design tab to align the tool with your course aesthetic. You can manually adjust colors, typography, and layout structures to ensure a seamless visual fit.

  3. Generate and Embed: Go to the Generate tab to finalize your tool. Click "Copy Embed Code" for your authoring tool's HTML block, or "Download as HTML" for local hosting and offline use.

Common Use Cases

  • Benchmark Awareness: Test whether learners know how their numbers compare to the industry.

  • Cost and Budget Training: Build a realistic sense of what things actually cost before a learner approves one.

  • Risk and Safety Data: Correct the gap between what feels dangerous and what the incident data shows.

Technical Specifications
